In the past few days we have been discussing issues in the world that we may or may not have known about.  This type of dicussion would point to the fact that media helps inform us of events, but it also plays a role in choosing which events become HUGE and which ones are little.

For example, how many of you had heard about the dolphin slaughter in Taiji?  Maybe a few?  But how many of you had heard that Global Warming was taking place or that gun control was a major sticking point in the US?  Probably more than Taiji...

What I'm getting at is why does the media choose which events to focus on or why do those events/topics (think Kony) turn viral?

Take a look at these topics/links that don't really attract a lot of mainstream attention:

http://www.unexplainable.net/ancients/the_great_pyramids_built_by_aliens_or_egyptians__2297.php

http://www.history.navy.mil/faqs/faq21-1.htm

While these  links are all "conspiracy theories" meaning that there is little to no evidence that they actually do exist, there are many people who believe they do exist or did happen.

So why doesn't the mainstream media report on these topics?  Aren't they just as important to people?

In your blog, explain in an open ended, free flow of writing what you think about the media?  Is it important that people hear about conspiracy theories or maybe we should just report on the facts?  Or maybe we need to be informed about everything - thanks internet?

Maybe tell me something that you believe in that should be reported as truth or fact.  Maybe the world needs to hear your story...

  1. personally i think that the mainstream news doesnt report these things because there is no hard evidence to support that these things exist and therefore no need to report it, however lately discovery network and history have been showing things about different conspiricies so they are starting to have mainstream appeal. I also think that its kind of like documentaries and movies in the sense that the mainstream news is for everyone all people should be interested in what goes on in their day to day lives, whereas these more over the top stories are for people who have interest in the topic. personally I don't belive any of these but I enjoy reading about theories people come up with as it's funny and interesting to see what some poeple think but at the same time i think that these people are really dumb for wasting their lives being paranoid about something thats probably not true.
