In the past few days we have been discussing issues in the world that we may or may not have known about.  This type of dicussion would point to the fact that media helps inform us of events, but it also plays a role in choosing which events become HUGE and which ones are little.

For example, how many of you had heard about the dolphin slaughter in Taiji?  Maybe a few?  But how many of you had heard that Global Warming was taking place or that gun control was a major sticking point in the US?  Probably more than Taiji...

What I'm getting at is why does the media choose which events to focus on or why do those events/topics (think Kony) turn viral?

Take a look at these topics/links that don't really attract a lot of mainstream attention:

http://www.history.navy.mil/faqs/faq21-1.htm

While these  links are all "conspiracy theories" meaning that there is little to no evidence that they actually do exist, there are many people who believe they do exist or did happen.

So why doesn't the mainstream media report on these topics?  Aren't they just as important to people?

In your blog, explain in an open ended, free flow of writing what you think about the media?  Is it important that people hear about conspiracy theories or maybe we should just report on the facts?  Or maybe we need to be informed about everything - thanks internet?

Maybe tell me something that you believe in that should be reported as truth or fact.  Maybe the world needs to hear your story...
